BEST Mentoring is a collaborative effort of community organizations and agencies to develop and implement effective mentoring services. The effectiveness is measured through structured, character-development, relational mentoring components. It starts by employing a twelve-point electronic match system and intentionally focused, specialized mentoring services. The collaborative efforts will increase the pool of fully trained mentors who are ready to provide healthy, nurturing, mentoring services to the community, especially toat-risk young men between the ages of sixteen and twenty- four. The rationale is that a fully equipped pool of trained mentors will enable more disenfranchised populations to have access to quality mentors who have received formal mentoring training (30 hours) that has been uniquely and individually tailored to address specific needs of particular populations in a very sensitive and caring manner. The goal is to create an environment in which the mentee and the mentor experience equally satisfactory encounters.
